What is the Curriculum Material Grant, how much is it and how is it allocated?

A

Manitoba Education and Training provides school divisions/districts and schools with a Curricular Materials Grant of $50 per eligible pupil. To allow schools greater flexibility in the use of the a Curricular Materials Grant, a discretionary portion - $20 per pupil - is paid directly to school divisions/districts and schools. This portion can be used to purchase learning resources from any source, including MTBB. The remaining $30 of the Grant will be retained as a credit solely for the purchase of curricular materials through MTBB.

What can the Grant be used for?

A

Curricular materials include:

  • Textbooks, library books, reference books, educational kits, charts, maps, globes, calculators, graphing calculators, micrometers, calipers, probes, motion pictures, audio tapes and video tapes, disks, CD-ROMs, recordings, testing materials, computer software

  • Video recordings for which IRU has acquired duplication and distribution rights

  • Cataloguing for library books

  • Costs of textbook and library book repairs, Internet connect charges and any other costs as may be approved by the Minister of Education and Training

The Curricular Materials Grant cannot be used for computer hardware.

Special Orders include items that are NOT stocked in the MTBB warehouse, but are ordered directly from the supplier/publisher.
